Calvin Synod Email Updates Via Feedburner

On the floor of synod, it was promised to explore options for email notification/delivery of the Herald.

To participate in this experiment

1. Go to CalvinSynod.org
2. Click the link “Get Email Updates Via Feedburner” or this link
3. Put in your email and the “verification code”
4. When a verification email arrives in you email box, click to “confirm it”>

This will allow you to be notified by email whenever a new post is put on CalvinSynod.org… 90% of the time this relates to the Calvin Synod Herald but always information relevant to the synod.

Please feel free to share this information with anyone interested in the Calvin Synod Herald. They DO NOT have to be members of this yahoogroup to participate. Any web visitor may join…

We will re-evaluate this system at the next Synod if there are enough participants in our test.

Currently 32 emails receive updates. I will judge interest in this program by how many additional emails start receiving updates.

Note: if you already receive updates, it is not necessary to submit your email again.

Thank you.

CHHSM is Now an Open and Affirming Organization of the UCC

The Council for Health and Human Service Ministries (CHHSM) is an “instrumentality” of the United Church of Christ.

Their website notes: “Our 73 corporate members, all affiliated with the United Church of Christ, operate 363 communities and programs for children, youth, families, older adults and people with disabilities.”

The following announcement was made through a recent email:

The Council for Health and Human Service Ministries (CHHSM) is honored to announce our Board of Directors voted unanimously on June 9, 2015 to become an Open and Affirming organization of the United Church of Christ.

At the 2015 Annual Meeting, CHHSM President and CEO Michael Readinger shared his goal to take this bold and faithful stand. We have spent the last few months discussing what it means to be Open and Affirming with our members in one on one discussions and in articles in our Diakonie. Our members are very enthusiastic and supportive of this decision.

The Board and staff of CHHSM know an Open and Affirming covenant may not be appropriate for all of our members. CHHSM’s Open and Affirming status does not mean our members will need to do the same. Fair and just employment policies are a foundation of all our members and we are proud of that. A move from employment policies of non-discrimination to acceptance, affirmation, and culture change is an important and powerful statement. During this process we have lifted up, and will continue to do so, the UCC motto of ‘Whoever you are or wherever you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.’ We are very much looking forward to living out this covenant with you and growing in our ministry together.

Additional explanatory links are available here.

Note: The Calvin Synod Conference of the United Church of Christ affirms positions consistent with those of the Faithful and Welcoming Churches.
