Calvin Central Classis Fall Meeting and Retreat

  • September 17, 2011 00:52

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

I am very pleased to extend to you this invitation to the Fall Meeting of the Central Classis, Calvin Synod Conference, United Church of Christ, which will take place on Saturday, October 1, 2011, at Bethlen Communities, Ligonier, PA.

The meeting will begin at 9:00 AM with registration and refreshments in Bethlen’s Conference Room, 125 Kalassay Drive. Our opening worship will be at 9:30.

Our featured speaker this year will be Ms. Dolores J. Taylor, who will present the topic: “Relationships: Conflict, Anger, Reconciliation and Blessings”. We will explore, through Scripture, our relationships and dialogue with God, self and others. The topic will be introduced at the Fall meeting, and will become the focus of the Central Classis Fall Retreat, scheduled for Friday evening through Saturday, October 21st and 22nd.

Ms. Taylor will lead us, through practical Biblical teachings, to a hands-on, Scripture-based approach to gaining the most and giving the most in our relationships with God and others. Please mark your calendars for both events. More information will follow via email. Both events are open to all members of Calvin Synod, the Hungarian Reformed Church in America, our local congregations and our friends, all interested people. May God bless our worship and fellowship together with a rich outpouring of His Holy Spirit!

In Faith,

Rev. Imre A. Bertalan, Dean

Hurricane Irene Appeal

  • September 1, 2011 08:04

The East Coast of the United States was experiencing a great natural disaster, the hurricane Irene, just a couple of days ago. It was a Category 3 hurricane that passed over the Caribbean and the Bahamas, then, as a Category 1 hurricane, made landfall in North Carolina, in New Jersey and in New York.

Throughout its path, Irene caused widespread destruction and 43 deaths (as of August 30) across 12 states.
“Considerable damage occurred in the Catskill Mountains and Mohawk Valley of New York State and in Vermont, which suffered from the worst flooding in centuries” (Associated Press 2011-08-29, “Irene brings worst flooding in centuries to Vermont.”)

The Conference Council of the Calvin Synod asks for your support to help the victims. Please, pray for the victims and make generous contributions to help them at the time of this great tragedy. Donations may be sent to the Calvin Synod Treasurer:

Ms. Lisa Susan Toth-Maskarinec

1836 Timothy Drive • West Mifflin, PA 15122

When sending your donation, please write in the Memo section of your check: Irene Disaster Relief Fund. We are thankful for your prayers and generous support!

Yours in Christ,
